What Does it Take to be a Sport Pilot?

Are you already a Certified Pilot?

A current, certified pilot, who holds a current medical certificate, may check out in an Aldera and use it as you would any airplane you have flown in the past. The Aldera may be used as you would use any contemporary general aviation type airplane. You may fly at night and in IFR conditions if you are properly certificated and current.

You may also fly the Aldera to obtain advanced ratings, such as an instrument certificate. Many current student pilots undergoing Private Pilot training will chose the cost saving Aldera to complete their training.

But what if you have not flown for some time, you are not current and do not have an FAA medical certificate. The Aldera is still your Sport Plane of choice. The Aldera may be flown by a pilot without a medical certificate (just as long as your medical certificate has not been denied or revoked) with few limitations.

A pilot who is not current will simply need to undergo a Flight Review (often referred to as a BFR) with a CFI and demonstrate adequate flying skills. Once current, a pilot flying without a medical certificate may exercise the privileges of a Sport Pilot. Check out our link “Privileges and Limitations of a Sport Pilot Certificate” for the details about the very few limitations that apply to flying the Aldera as a Sport Pilot.
